Introduce yourselves!

Hello!

Welcome to the community!

Hi all,

Iā€™m Andy. Iā€™ve lived most of my life in the UK, but am currently in Australia.

Iā€™ve implemented 4 greenfield data warehouses, but theyā€™ve all been Kimball. Iā€™m now looking at a much bigger dataset in a company going through changes and could use something a bit more robust ā€˜under the hood.

So here I am, trying to learn if DV2.0 is the right solution for us.

Welcome, @andy !

Have you considered pursuing a DV2 Practitioner certification to gain a deep understanding of DV2? If you indeed plan to implement a data vault, having this knowledge and experience would help you get going in the right direction and avoid common pitfalls during development.

I would love to!

Unfortunately itā€™s one of those catch-22 situations.

I canā€™t get business sign-off unless I can show a PoC and articulate the value. I canā€™t build a PoC until I have the base understanding.

While I could probably build something simple, our business is far from that, with multiple interlinked systems with overlapping data at different grain. So trying to get myself to the level of being able to build something out in my ā€˜spare 5 minutesā€™ that results in a single fact and associated dimensions. If I can then show this to contain the same quality of data we have in our existing warehouse but with a less tightly coupled data solution and the ability to update much faster, I should be able to get the go-ahead to move forward with the architecture, and the training would be a part of that.

Hi all,

I am Dmitrii. I am excited to join this forum of fellow DV practitioners. Last 5 years I have been working as BI / DWH analyst, consultant, data modeller and analytics lead.

My first experience with DV 2.0 was in 2018 and since then I have seen not only DV but different alternatives, including Kimball-like and 3NF attempts, and even a hybrid model of Data Vault + Anchor methodologies at my previous job.

I am currently based in Australia and always keen to chat to another DWH and data enthusiast!
