Hub - Link - Satellite

Hello everyone,

I have a question regarding Data Vault 2.0 modeling. Is it valid to establish a connection between a hub, a link, and a satellite, considering there is only one hub involved in the relationship?

The challenge I am trying to solve with this approach is a scenario where a hub is associated with several active satellites at the same time.

Would this design adhere to the principles of Data Vault 2.0, or is there a better way to handle this situation? I would appreciate any insights or advice on how to model this correctly.

I don’t know what this but it ain’t a DV or a DV2 model,

To elaborate,

  • Why do you need a link table between a hub and a satellite? What’s the purpose? Links model an interaction or relationship between two or more business objects
  • Why is a concept that appears to be a reference table being modelled as a hub? Asset type is not a business entity.
  • Why not model this into something that is not a Data Vault? Or perhaps use “hub”, “link” and/or “satellite” but do not call it a data vault model. Maybe even consider an Anchor Model if your goal is to build a 6NF model.
