I have been looking into CDVP2 certification which seems to be well-regarded. However I couldn’t find information about how to register for the exam, without having to pay $3k+ for a training course first. Surely there must be some way to do this. I am unemployed and simply can’t afford that.

Yes, you must attend the CDVP2 Boot Camp before being eligible to take the certification exam. This is due to all the new materials we offer in the course, which are critical to the Certified Data Vault 2.0 Practitioner.

I can surely empathize with you on that.
Would you be able to somehow get “sponsored” to take the course, perhaps with a scholarship or grant of some sort? If you work for a company where the certification would be relevant to your job duties, you might be able to request that the company pay for the certification course.
You might also be able to privately contact a course instructor and ask about available scholarships/grants (I don’t know if this is even a thing, but I have also never asked.) I also found a few sites online that offer assistance on finding grants and/or scholarships for a very wide range of disciplines.
We have no idea about your situation in life, so these recommendations may just not be feasible. Believe me, though, this certification is well worth the investment and the effort in finding a way to make it happen!
